Each day, first graders write words that fit our language or phonics function. They also write a sentence and draw a picture.
Last week, a student wrote a conversation! It needed work, obviously, but we were able to understand it in its raw form. Then the next day, another student attempted to write a conversation as well! It's contagious. What will I do about it? I am going to add writing dialogue as a mentor lesson in the next Writers' Workshop, of course! I can't wait to see how the students continue to use this function in their personal writing!

I am loving using the WIDA Can-Do Descriptors with student names that I downloaded free from the www.WIDA.us website. I have a master copy that I use for lesson planning, and I am using it currently to differentiate assessment. As I become more practiced using the descriptors, I hope I can break down more components of planning as well.
